The work of this master plan builds upon previous campus planning efforts and provides a clear direction for the ultimate campus-wide improvements at Joseph Kerr Middle School. A new gymnasium building, science center, significant site infrastructure improvements and the demolition of the old gymnasium were completed in August 2021. Additionally, significant upgrades have been completed to the classrooms and library in Buildings B, C and D. This included carpet replacement, interior and exterior painting, exterior soffit replacement and new lighting and furnishings in the library.
During the design and construction of these projects, district architects, facility staff and administrators from Kerr Middle School worked to further refine previous planning efforts and to provide a vision of the future of Kerr Middle School. The recent new work exposed concerns about the remaining existing aged campus infrastructure, accessibility obstacles, campus security and safety, and a better understanding of future facility needs of the campus emerged.
This master plan presents a multi-phase approach to continue with campus facility and infrastructure improvements to provide optimal learning environments for its students for years to come. The illustration on this page represents the Joseph Kerr Middle School campus at full build-out. An aggressive timeframe is presented with this plan. Ultimate completion will depend on the availability of funding and competing Elk Grove Unified School District facility priorities.
