ABOUT NACHT & LEWIS
OUR IDENTITY
Nacht & Lewis is a design firm, deeply rooted in the historic fabric of the Sacramento community. Over the last 100 years, we have built an outstanding reputation for designing innovative solutions with integrity and dedication. Our work can be seen throughout Northern California, the Central Valley and beyond. We specialize in civic, education, healthcare, justice and public safety markets.
SOLUTIONS-BASED APPROACH
Our dedication to quality is represented by the entirety of our body of work, but it is the team behind the name that makes us exceptional. Nacht & Lewis is made up of a collection of imaginative and strategic problem solvers who genuinely enjoy collaborating to produce the best project outcomes, while having fun as a team and with our clients along the way.
From the beginning of each project, we employ a solutions-based approach to design that is sustained through every phase of the job and brought to life with the latest visualization technologies and trends. Collectively with our clients, trusted consultants and the surrounding communities, we create designs that enrich the community and environment.
OUR HISTORY
Creating and sustaining a reputation of excellent architectural design for nearly a century is no small challenge. Our success in achieving this feat is due entirely to outstanding leadership, innovation and high-quality client service.
In 1922, a young architect from New York, Leonard F. Starks, traveled across the country to Sacramento at the request of his employer to design a chain of theatres. Construction difficulties with the first theatre, the Fox Senator Theatre, inspired Starks to establish his own firm, setting the foundation for what Nacht & Lewis is today.
ROOTS IN SACRAMENTO
The Fox Senator Theatre and the Alhambra Theatre, while no longer standing, played a significant role in the formative years of Nacht & Lewis, as well as the architectural spirit of Sacramento as a whole. Signature buildings designed by our founding architects include the Elks Building, C.K. McClatchy High School, and the U.S. Post Office Building.
In the nine decades that followed our founding, while the names and faces have changed, one thing remains the same: you examine Sacramento’s architectural history without seeing the work of Nacht & Lewis everywhere you look.
