ABOUT NACHT & LEWIS
OUR IDENTITY
Nacht & Lewis is a multi-disciplinary design firm, deeply rooted in the historic fabric of the Sacramento community. Over the last 97 years, we have built an outstanding reputation for designing innovative solutions with integrity and dedication. Our work can be seen throughout Northern California, the Central Valley and beyond. We specialize in civic, education, healthcare, justice (corrections and courts) and public safety markets.
SOLUTIONS-BASED APPROACH
Our dedication to quality is represented by the entirety of our body of work, but it is the team behind the name that makes us exceptional. Nacht & Lewis is made up of a collection of imaginative and strategic problem solvers who genuinely enjoy collaborating to produce the best project outcomes, while having fun as a team and with our clients along the way.
From the beginning of each project, we employ a solutions-based approach to design that is sustained through every phase of the job and brought to life with the latest visualization technologies and trends. Collectively with our clients, trusted consultants and the surrounding communities, we create designs that enrich the community and environment.
OUR HISTORY
Creating and sustaining a reputation of excellent architectural design for nearly a century is no small challenge. Our success in achieving this feat is due entirely to outstanding leadership, innovation and high-quality client service.
In 1922, a young architect from New York, Leonard F. Starks, traveled across the country to Sacramento at the request of his employer to design a chain of theatres. Construction difficulties with the first theatre, the Fox Senator Theatre, inspired Starks to establish his own firm, setting the foundation for what Nacht & Lewis is today.
ROOTS IN SACRAMENTO
The Fox Senator Theatre and the Alhambra Theatre, while no longer standing, played a significant role in the formative years of Nacht & Lewis, as well as the architectural spirit of Sacramento as a whole. Signature buildings designed by our founding architects include the Elks Building, C.K. McClatchy High School, and the U.S. Post Office Building.
In the nine decades that followed our founding, while the names and faces have changed, one thing remains the same: you examine Sacramento’s architectural history without seeing the work of Nacht & Lewis everywhere you look.

They did a really nice job of taking advantage of the spaces we had and making the most of them.
Don Wiley
Owner, Dignity Health

They're one of the long-standing, high-quality responsible firms in the Sacramento region.
We felt comfortable with them, that they would listen to our needs and would help us generate ideas.

Exceptional Level of support throughout construction.
Leland Roberts

Nacht & Lewis has principal involvement, lack of ego and timely delivery on the same type of project. Plus they're good people and have great confidence. They're very good at understanding very complex systems, and these CHP projects are incredibly complex -- it's mind boggling. They pretty much lead the way in the State of California.
Brad Hays
Capitol Avenue Development

They’ve done an admirable job. They’re open, friendly, cooperative and good at partnering with us and the agencies we have to interact with. And, they’re very good at receiving any of our suggestions to them. They're extremely open and friendly. They don't talk technical over our head.
Martin Ryan
Amador County

The thing we rely on is that they're providing us with solutions and recommendations. They had the team work and the openness to do that.
Micky Chen
California Highway Patrol

They’re a good partner – they roll up their sleeves and help us figure things out. Particularly with design/build, you need to have an architect like that. I appreciate the amount of effort they put in to helping us understand the client and to prepare the proposals. They’re really willing to do that which almost amounts to doing the design upfront
Nils Blomquist
DPR Construction

This architectural firm was a great partner throughout the protracted planning phase, continuing with diligence and support during the construction process.
Lois Casement Ross, Facility Project Manager
Sacramento Public Library Authority

Time after time, Nacht & Lewis has demonstrated their understanding and knowledge of court processes and culture. With their willingness to ask for, listen to, and then incorporate input from project stakeholders, they have repeatedly shown an inventiveness and ability to bring useful ideas to realization. And, their designs are superb.
Debra Moynier
Superior Court of CA

Not only do you continue to meet the Department’s high expectations and deadlines, you have done so with compliance and professionalism. I look forward to our continuing relationship as we complete our current projects. You have treated us as a special client and we hope to work with you in the future.

The people on board, in general. They're nice to work with. I can call and leave a message and I know someone will get back to me quickly. They're always willing to find a solution and give me options.
Dennis Fong

Their experience and qualifications. Their approach, their tools and the methods they used. Their SOQ, their response to the RFP, they did so competently. There were no errors. They took the time to put together a good proposal. They really outshone everyone else.
Jon Hopkins

The consummate professionalism of Nacht & Lewis made for a smooth path to a completed project. Their ability to address district needs during extremely tight time frames displayed their superior commitment to their customer

We know if we outline a project for Nacht & Lewis, they’re going to gather the resources to get it done, on time and in budget. They’re technically capable and they have creative and talented people.

They've been transparent, and we've had honest, productive conversations with them. On any construction project, things can pop up that no one could have anticipated. They're good at working those.
Brad Tooker
Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District

More than anything I appreciate their commitment to the district… I really get the sense they like us -- it's a feeling of family. I know I'm getting the best product from them and they should know I'll take care of them on my end.
Brett Mitchell
San Juan Unified School District

We work with quite a few architecture firms. The way we team up with them is not just have we worked with them in the past but also the market. Many times Nacht & Lewis is part of the conversation. There's also a comfort level with them. There's nothing they're not doing right.
Carl Barrett
Otto Construction

They're a very professional firm, very personable. They build good working relationships. Where they're different from other firms is that their team members do a better job listening.
Danny Martin
Innovative Construction Services

I like their professionalism – how they collaborate. They really listen to the stakeholders, and sometimes that can get difficult. But they have a very methodical approach, and they really listen. I think the stakeholders walk away from those meetings and feel like they’re heard.
Frank Camarda
San Juan Unified School District

Their understanding of the customer’s requirements – they’re not telling us what we already know because they feel they know better. That’s the biggest issue I have with architects…Nacht & Lewis seems to understand the strengths of their clients.
Laura Doty
Sierra College

They get in and get the job done. They don’t have excuses. They have a very linear way of approach. They know the deadlines and they make the work flow to meet them.
Susan Bell
Elk Grove Unified School District

Nacht & Lewis has my on-going appreciation for their expertise, support and role in our current success. A highly successful endeavor that exceeded expectations.
