PROJECT DESCRIPTION

CalPERS requested Nacht & Lewis to study the impact of converting two sets of existing multi-accommodation restrooms into gender neutral restrooms for single-accommodation. The study included a review of gender neutral legislation specific to California and a plumbing code analysis. A total of three options were presented with different design options with a low, medium, and high budget range. A pragmatic approach was taken with the design options presented to CalPERS in a 16 page PDF report. The client was interested in a low-cost solution in providing gender neutral restroom facilities available to employees and the general public. The existing building consists of post tensioned structural slabs and existing wet utility locations making design options limited.
