Staff Spotlight Nitin Sharma

Our Education team is growing! Please join us in welcoming Sacramento native Nitin Sharma to N&L!

1. How long have you been with N&L?

I’ve been with Nacht & Lewis for almost a whole month! Having a great time so far and am excited for what the future holds.

2. What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

I really like Italian food. I studied abroad in Milan for a quarter when I was in school and have been obsessed with trying to recreate the different pastas, sauces, gelati and coffees! So far, I’ve been mildly successful in making my own pesto and bruschetta (quite possibly the easiest things to make) and I can make a mean Aperol Spritz!

3. Do you have any pets?

I have a Siberian Husky/German Shepard mix named Zohra, who enjoys hiking with me, saying hello to every, single person she lays eyes on and shedding all over my clothes. I rescued her last year, so I have no idea what her story is (or even her age), but she is my baby.

4. Do you speak any other languages?

I can speak four languages fluently and I’m trying to learn Italian!

5. What do you do in your downtime?

I enjoy cooking, watching a good British procedural and going on a nice hike.

6. What’s your favorite part of working in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) industry?

I really enjoy designing spaces I would enjoy being in and could see others enjoying as well. I think human-centered design is what drives us to be better architects/designers – if we are able and willing to take the time to pay attention to the details.

7. If you weren’t a design technician, what would you be doing?

I really enjoy being a designer, but before I made the decision to follow this path, I was also interested in the idea of becoming a lawyer or journalist.

8. Favorite song or band/musician?

I am completely obsessed with the band Young the Giant. I’ve seen them live about four or five times. Every concert of theirs has been an experience that I can’t put into words!

9. What’s your favorite season?

I really enjoy Fall in Sacramento. To see the leaves turn and listen to the sound of rain outside the window, while drinking a nice hot coffee sounds really good right now!

10. What is your favorite N&L past project?

My favorite past project Nacht & Lewis has done, has to be Inderkum High School. I went to high school there and was always in awe of the buildings – it actually drew me to the idea of studying architecture!

11. What is your favorite thing to do in Sacramento?

Watching Sacramento develop so much in the past few years is very exciting! As someone who grew up in Sacramento, my favorite things to do now include going to the Japanese Film Festival at the Crest Theater, checking out the newest coffee shop and exploring all of the development happening at DOCO and R Street.

Designing for Wellness

When designing, architects always think about the effects that architecture may have on the people that use and interact with our buildings and spaces. The experience can vary depending on the intent of the structure. For example, a sacred space should elicit…

The Process of a Designer

“You don’t just design buildings, you design details, you design execution… you design the entire process”. – Bob Borson, I was recently asked about “design” and what the process entails.  While the notion of “design” is something achieved and…
